How Do You Know If A Car Axle Is Bad?
Car shocks and struts play a major role in the stability and handling of your vehicle. However, if your mechanic has determined that they are still in good condition, there could be another culprit for your car suspension problems. An axle has been damaged!
How do you know if a car axle is bad?
- You feel unusual vibrations in the steering wheel.
- You feel wobbling in the wheels and can see that they are out of alignment.
- It takes longer for your brakes to bring you to a complete stop.
- The other components (shocks and struts) of the car suspension system are wearing out faster than normal.
- The axle actually breaks.
In most cases, axles are designed to last for the life of your vehicle even with a lot of wear and tear. If your axles are damaged, it is generally the result of a specific incident, such as driving through potholes or over a speed bump too fast, traveling consistently on rough roads, running over curbs, or an accident (even a minor fender-bender).
Tip to Remember: Be sure to have an inspection of your entire car suspension system each time you have a car service, such as an oil change or tire rotation. By the time you notice a problem in the suspension system, the damage could already have occurred to the springs, tires, or axles.
